Kathryn Emily Blair

Kathryn Emily Blair, 64, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17 at home, surrounded by her family.

Kathy was born in St. Johnsbury on September 21, 1946 to the late Wayne and Alice Blair. Kathy was predeceased by her husband, William Engelmann, on May 21, 2011.

Bill and Kathy were the lights of each other’s lives finding a perfect balance, partnership and joining of families.

Kathy spent her early years roaming the hills of East Lyndon, playing board games, the piano, and cooking. Kathy graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1964 and then attended Lyndon Teacher’s College graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1968.

Kathy taught in Barton Elementary School and later had the opportunity to fulfill her dream of teaching in the one room school house she attended as a child. When The Red Village School closed, Kathy continued her career at Lyndon Town School. Kathy dedicated 40 years to her passion of teaching.

Kathy was a Special Olympics coach with her husband Bill for several years where they later led the Caledonia County Olympians to new levels. Kathy enjoyed many passions, including crafts, scrapbooking, knitting, antiquing, cooking, preserving family history and hosting family gatherings.

Kathy was blessed with her daughter Jennie, and Bill’s children, Billy and Lori. Her children taught Kathy the importance of unconditional love, exceeding expectations, and the joy of her own family. Kathy was a dedicated and tireless mother. She opened doors for Jennie that children continue to benefit from today. Kathy remained an advocate for people with special needs into her retirement.
